Hi All!
I'm new to this tribe thing and saw the dfw tribe. I will be moving to the area in August and was hoping for some advice. As a TCU alumni, I know a little about Fort Worth, but have not been back since 2001. Does anyone have some suggestions on where to look for a good appartment?
Thanks,
Karen

Re: Moving to the Area
Mon, June 25, 2007 - 7:06 PMOut of Dallas and Tarrant counties the taxes and insurance will be cheaper.
Of course it will also depend on where you are working.
Arlington does not have public transportation.
The university areas (SMU, TCU) are more expensive, as is Plano and surrounding area.

Re: Moving to the Area
Tue, June 26, 2007 - 8:05 AMI know Dallas more than anything really. I've been happy living in the Village for the past several years since graduating TCU. www.thevillageapts.com/
You can also look for some decent places off of Preston north of 635.
It kinda depends on what you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend in both money and time driving to where you work.

Mon, July 2, 2007 - 7:26 AMThey have some not so good school districts within Dallas. I would do my research well before signing on anywhere!

Mon, July 2, 2007 - 5:55 PMYou might also consider looking at the DFW Burners tribe. I know that there are several teachers in that group that would be willing to give you advice.

Re: Moving to the Area
Wed, August 15, 2007 - 5:54 AMNot Dallas for sure. Pretty much all of them are good, but Dallas is pretty hard. I've just talked to teachers & they are over worked. I also know that De Soto (or Garland) is changing their school week to Monday through Thursday - which means longer days for teachers. Parents are pretty pissed off! -

Re: Moving to the Area
Wed, August 15, 2007 - 7:50 AMI don't think that change is happening. From the last report I heard, they are going to table it and actually have discussion and vote on it next for next year.

Thu, August 16, 2007 - 6:38 AMIt's Lancaster that was considering the 4-day school week, and it's very doubtful that it will pass. -

Re: Moving to the Area
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 6:53 AMAnd I can't sit back and let someone diss my school district. I *actually enjoy* working for Dallas ISD. I work with some amazing people, and fabulous kids. That doesn't mean I'm not crazy...but sometimes being crazy helps. ;-)

Re: Moving to the Area
Mon, July 2, 2007 - 5:59 PMI don't know apartments.. but my landlord rent's houses for about 700$ a month mainly in the East Dallas area.
School Districts: Mesquite has one of the best. My sister went thru the Mesquite H.S. system and had a wonderful H.S. experiance. She was also an inner-city Dallas kid for elem. and Jr. High. Elem. very.. but her Jr. High was excellent.

Re: Moving to the Area
Thu, August 16, 2007 - 11:10 AMThank you all for the infromation! It's great to get some different perspectives. We did find an appartment in Bedford. Thank you all for your help. I'm still looking for a teaching job. I'll try the tribes you all told me about... any more info on the DFW area would be very helpful! I'm still learning my way around.
