July 26th- vendors needed!!

We are looking for more vendors for our next and future events. Vendors of jewelry, clothing, and art tend to do well. We've also had people "vend" their services, such as palm reading and handwriting analysis.

Kismet Stage Events usually has vending space available at their dance events held once about every two months. This month we have a few more tables to reserve for our next event on July 26th. Tables are $20 (balcony) or $40 (floor). This reserves the space and gets you in to the event for free. Any extra tables, floor stands, etc. are an extra $10 each. All helpers/assistants must pay the $10 entrance fee to the event.

Kismet is a multicultural dance event with an average audience of about 80 people and around 20 -30 dancers. All merchandise has to be family friendly. The events are held in Carrollton.

PM me if you would like more information on either the event itself or being a vendor this month or for a future event.

Veggie Oil?

Does anyone work at/manage/own, a restaurant that could supply me with used veggie oil? I will probably need about 10-15 gallons a week maximum. I'm willing to pay a little for it if necessary. I'm considering turning my VW diesel into a griesel, but want to first see if I can get a reliable supply of waste veggie oil.

Sincerely,
matt R!!!

2 Day Burlesque Workshop in DFW!

Coming to Texas Saturday February 23rd and Sunday, February 24th is a two day intensive workshop with one of the top Burlesque performers; Jo Boobs! The class is limited to 20 Ladies and there are only *2* spots left! This would be a great Valentine's present that you both can enjoy! Click the link below for more information and registration:

htp://texastease.eventbrite.com

Learn the sexy shimmy, the tantalizing glove peel, the devastating bump n grind, and the dazzling tassel-twirl from an internationally recognized striptease expert with decades of performing experience. Many former students perform in New York at prestigious burlesque venues. You can, too! Or, you can take a burlesque workshop simply because the workshop itself is a party! It's even more fun when you bring a friend!

The workshop will consist of two full days of intensive instruction; the first day will focus on burlesque dance (basic moves, chair, fan, peel, and floor) classes, and the second day of skit burlesque (ideas, themes, music) classes and resources (costuming, shopping, props). The first day will also include a basic fan dance class, featuring lessons on hand positions, types of fans, and basic fan dance moves. p. We also are offering a separate advanced fan class! The advanced fan class will take place on Sunday at 6:30pm and is limited to 20 attendees as well. In the basic class included in the 2-day workshop you will learn the basics such as hand positions and fan control. This 90-minute class will take you to the next level and show you not only the art of revealing and concealing but you will even learn choreography!

Head over to the registration page now & feel free to contact me with any questions!

Thanks!

ever thought about playing soccer?

I'm looking for players this season to help fill up spots on a few different soccer teams. Absolutely no experience necessary depending on the team!! These are all just friendly, fun-loving teams. While we all like to win in general, for the most part, we just like to go out, try our best, then cool down with a beer or two afterward. It's a great way to get some exercise and get to meet a lot of really great people...in person!

There are 3 different coed indoor teams to choose from, one that is midlevel and the other two range from beginner to midlevel. For the most part, we need more girls, but we'll gladly take another guy or two who's interested! Games are either Friday or Saturday afternoon/evening, at either Inwood Soccer in Addison or Soccer Spectrum in Richardson. I'm also looking for girls for a female outdoor team. Games are on Sundays at different parks around Dallas. You can contact me through here for more details.

Greetings my beloved burner buds!

I know it’s horrible timing, seeing as how so many of you are destined to be in the desert here shortly but the gypsy finds herself in NEED!

In need of a drummer and drum (or two) for this weekend, actually. I am helping out a friend by filling a performance spot this weekend at a renaissance faire in East Texas. It’s just a little thing, it’s second year running, but it could be a great deal of fun. I agreed to do a bit of hooping to help fill out the day but I need some help making it a real “jam”. So if you or anyone you know has got the drum groove down and you can do me a HUGE favor (an eternally greatful gypsy is definitely a treasure to be saught after, or some such thing) you’d have a mega gold star in my book. I can pay for gas or give you a ride down there if need be. Not to mention a weekend with a LOT of cool people.

So again the details:
BIIIIG favor for Gypsy
Drum and drummer that can get their groove thing on for atleast 15-20 minutes sat and sun.
Renaissance faire fun weekend.
Emory, Tx August 25 and 26
Ride if needed (or gas money)
Cool People!

If you can help me out but don’t have ren garb…let me know, I’m sure we can put something together.

World of thanks, pass it along…

Hi All!

I'm new to this tribe thing and saw the dfw tribe. I will be moving to the area in August and was hoping for some advice. As a TCU alumni, I know a little about Fort Worth, but have not been back since 2001. Does anyone have some suggestions on where to look for a good appartment?

Thanks,
Karen

2 Fire Dancers needed in New Orleans for 9/8/07 show

my very wonderful and amazing friend is chairing a scholarship/grant charity benefit for the arts in New Orleans on 9/8/07.

she desperately needs two fire dancers.

while there is no pay for the performance being that it is a charity benefit, you will get free room and board for the weekend, as well as be able to have a great time seeing all the many different kinds of performers that will be there, and receive a load of appreciation from those hosting the event. i'd go myself if i was better than my current amateur status.

if you or anyone you know may be interested, please message me and i will send you her contact info.

thank you!

Our second meeting, to finish reading "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins will be Tuesday, July 31, 7 pm at the Allgood Cafe in Deep Ellum. It's 2-for-1 entree night!

*********
There are some great books out there on the NY Times bestseller list right now regarding the "new atheism". Some great reads on the case for rationalism, spirituality minus deism, a purpose-filled life that need not include reference to mythological beings.
Let's read these books - and some old classics - together, and have some lively discussion! We are meeting approximately every 4-6 weeks. Some potential future reading material:

The Varieties of Religious Experience - William James
The End of Faith - Sam Harris
Letter To A Christian Nation - Sam Harris

i live in carrollton, jen in arlington. neither of us have cars, but we have folks to get us wherever, the closer within our vicinity the better.

Dixie Chicks Last Night

I took my daughters to the Chicks last night. One is seven and one is eight. Some people looked at me funny, I guess because it's a school night. But it was worth it. I know a lot of people have their issues with the lead singer Natalie, but the sisters are amazing musicians. And I know a little bit about that. Emily Robinson (the brunette) must have played 15 different instruments last night. And the coup de grace was the encore when the three came out on stage alone and did Travelling Soldier without accompaniment. And Emily was playing a Dobro slide guitar. How cool is that?

Anyways, the injected a little politics now and then. But the girls were amazed by the performance. I think it was worth keeping them up late. If I was a betting man, I'd bet both girls start showing an interest in musical instruments after that.

If anyone else was at the show, share your thoughts.

This is not so much in response to, but inspried by the comment that was made in another post. Hope you don't mind, Crandall.

How many people feel like Dallas isn't their home? (I don't mean to get all mushy.) I've been here for ten years. While it has been, for the most part, really good to me, DFW just doesn't feel like a home. It feels more like Crandal said...a place to work. Now, he could have mean that just for Dallas and not the surrounding area, but that's how I took it! Of course, I've got agoraphobia, social anxiety and god knows what else! so, I could be own my own on that!

For me there are just too many strait laced people in this area. I will say this, they are in general a nicer group than I've ever met. It's funny how most people from other states guffaw when I tell them that, but it is true. Texans are nice...fuddyduddies...but nice.

This week: On Weds, 2/7/07, Howard Jones, beloved New Wave musician who did songs like "No One is to Blame" and "Like to Get to Know You Well," is doing a one-night acoustical set at the Granada Theatre on lower Greenville Ave. in Dallas, TX. Go to http://tinyurl.com/2hza5s for more info (or www.guidelive.com and search under music - the URL above is just a condensed link to this site), or call 214-824-9933, or visit www.granadatheater.com.

If you missed him in concert back in his heyday, this is likely the only chance you'll get to see this prophet of peace and animal rights, so buy tix now

Hiya,

I'm new to this whole tribe thing, but I'm checking it out. I hope to learn a lot from you folks about our fair town.

Here's a short bit of info about me. I'm a Dallas native. I run a Yahoo Group devoted to blues music in Dallas and the surrounding areas called NorthTexasBlues.org. I play and sing in a band locally called Texas Mojo. And I'm getting married on Friday.

That's enough soul wrenching sharing for now. Hope everyone out there is keeping warm.

Cheers,

Does anyone know if DVD covers are recyclable? I've looked all over the internet...OK about 6 sites....and can't find anything that says yea or nay. I've looked on the covers themselves and can't find a little number as to what kind of plastic they are made of.

If they can be recycled, do you know which cities will take them?

If not, anyone need 100 DVD cases and 60 CD cases? (-:

Found this on Ebay and it made me LAUGH! Lampoons the silliness going on in Frisco with the School Board

Now THAT is funny!

it is a nude painting of a woman, Lady Godiva, riding a bull. Inspired by the craziness in Frisco, TX where the teacher is suspended because she took her students to the Dallas Museum of Art and one of the kids saw a *GASP!* Breast!!!!!!

I thought some of the people in this community would get a kick out of seeing the painting.

Made me laugh, that is for sure!

BURLESQUE CONTEMPO SHOW, OCT 7

If you are in the Dallas area, come check it out.

Our next show is on the 7th of October at the Dallas
Hub Theater in Deep Ellum. Show starts at 10:30pm and
lasts about an hour (which leaves plenty of time to
hit up a few bars after).

We are all local artists doing this simply
because we love to, and every aspect of the show is
our own. From center stage to back stage, costumes,
make-up, choreography, lights and sound (thanks dad).

With vaudevillian roots, our counter
culture attitude aims to redefine
what people think and expect
when they hear the term burlesque (which by definition
means nothing more than a lampoon). We go from
the classic tongue-in-cheek to dark and
psychedelic acts, showcasing a variety of personalities
and talents, which are always more tease than sleaze.

You can get more info at www.dallashubtheater.com or
2809 Canton St. Dallas, TX 75226 (Deep Ellum) Phone 214.749.7010

New in Town...Public Transportation?

Hi everyone!

I just moved to the ft. Worth area. I am currently staying with family in Azle. But I would like to move to Ft. Worth because azle is too damn small. I do not have a car nor am I in the position to get one at the moment. So, what is the public Transportation like? Are there any bus stops near apartments (in decent neighborhoods)? I am completely lost here, yet I like what I see so far.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Shanna

Dare to be BOLD on Labor Day? Birth on Labor Day (BOLD) is asking communities throughout the country - from college campuses to coffee houses to living rooms - to perform playwright Karen Brody's play, BIRTH, on any day over Labor Day weekend (September 1-4, 2006) and then hold a BOLD talkback after the show encouraging women to EDUCATE themselves about the risks and benefits of medicalizing pregnancy and labor, to tell the TRUTH about their own birth stories, and to take ACTION that makes birth more mother-friendly. BIRTH tells seven true stories about childbirth in America through monologues and some dialogue, bringing together the voices women heard on the day they gave birth into a powerful show that exposes the naked truth of childbirth in America.
Bike Ride Sunday!

There's a large group of people that ride every Sunday in Dallas. Thought I'd share w/ this group!
----------------------
Bust out the ugliest shades you can find and let’s ride!

This Sunday is “Stupid Sunglass Sunday”! Scrape up that loose change and head to the closest gas station (glance at the gas prices while you’re there) and invest in the ugliest shades you can find. You’ll never get mad if you loose (or sit on) these beauties. We meet Sunday 6PM in front of Taco Diner in the West Village. To get full use out of our fly sunglasses we’ll point our wagons west to the Belmont Hotel for dranks (http://www.belmontdallas.com). We’ll bask in the rays and giggle till sunset.

If you need some wheels for Sunday, call or email to reserve a bike.

See ya’ in yo’ silly sunglasses Sunday,

Looking for a career change? I am looking to hire people for Uptown Cycles. Bicycle experience is not required, but you must laugh at all of my stupid jokes. Email me if you are interested in making people smile.

TABC hearing: Fight For Your Rights!

TABC hearing: Fight For Your Rights!
(repost from Myspace)
The issue here is: if you appear intoxicated to a TABC agent in a bar, you can be arrested. Not merely fined or ticketed, but hauled off to jail. Without a Breathalyzer test. Without even having had an alcoholic drink. Designated drivers notwithstanding. All books judged solely by their covers.

Can you imagine a TABC Agent walking in on a Pocket Fishrmen show at Room 710, a HUG show at Lovejoys, or any show at Emos, Trophy's, Hole In the Wall or just about anywhere in Texas? I'm not saying there aren't drunk people at those shows--the point is, how many exuberant, dancing-our-ass-off, BAC-level-below-.08-attendees could potentially be arrested at one of these shows?

Repost below, along with Chris Gray's TCB column from the Aus Chron on the topic.

To the working class--let's schedule our breaks accordingly so we can show up to this thing.

On April 17th the Texas House Committee on Licensing and Administrative Procedures is evaluating the recent efforts of the TABC on arresting "publicly intoxicated persons" in establishments that sell alcohol. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that we have a big showing at this meeting. Public testimony is allowed, and I am encouraging everyone to come and show our elected representatives and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission that we appreciate our civil rights as citizens, and don't want them taken from us. The meeting starts at 2:00 PM. Please be there - even if not speaking. If you want to speak, you need to arrive 30-45 minutes beforehand in order to sign up. I've listed the details below ... we have started a group on MySpace group to share ideas ... groups.myspace.com/controltabc ... see you on Monday, April 17th, and please REPOST! ...

--- DTFB & Laura

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

COMMITTEE: Licensing & Administrative Procedures

TIME & DATE: 2:00PM or upon final adjourn./recess
Monday, April 17, 2006

PLACE: Capitol Extension, E2.030

CHAIR: Rep. Kino Flores
__________________________________________________________________________
OVERSIGHT: Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission
SIPS (Sales to Intoxicated Persons Sting)

The committee will hear from TABC regarding their recently publicized sting operation (SIPS) of arresting people in bars for public drunkenness.

(Public testimony is welcome)
----------------------------------------------------------------
TCB
Music news
BY CHRISTOPHER GRAY
Caught in the Act
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission's Sales to Intoxicated Persons operation, which authorizes agents to enter bars and arrest people who appear drunk regardless of their actual alcohol intake came under fire almost from the moment it hit the media last month.

The TABC's Web site acknowledges an increase in phone calls and e-mails to the agency, "some of them negative," and it already appears to be impacting the local bar business.

A Chronicle writer attended last week's James McMurtry show at the Continental Club and says the doorman told him that people who show up and have been, or appear to have been, drinking will be denied entry, as may those who don't drink but like to kick up their heels a little too much on the dance floor.

Continental owner Steve Wertheimer says this is mostly consistent with existing club policy. "In addition to everybody being TABC-certified and taking those courses, a couple of times a year I have the TABC agents come out to the club, and we have a meeting where they sit down and have a Q&A with my employees," he says. "I don't think we have any new rules." If anything, he adds, employees now have a concrete reason to refuse intoxicated persons entry or service, and as far as overzealous dancers, "If anybody gets rowdy and starts making other patrons uncomfortable, we're going to toss them out anyway."

Beerland's Randall Stockton says that so far he's been incident-free and hasn't noticed any drop in business since the rash of publicity for the TABC operation which has actually been going on since 2001 but he's heard people talk: "I've had a lot of people tell me the reason they're not out as much is that between the smoking ban and [possibly] being arrested for [public intoxication], it's just not worth going to a bar anymore."

Concerns like these drove Texas State Rep. Kino Flores (D-Palmview), chair of the House Licensing and Administrative Procedures Committee, to send TABC Administrator Alan Steen a letter last week asking him to consider a moratorium on the operation until an April 17 meeting of Flores' committee. Steen sent a letter back Tuesday saying, "We are immediately taking steps to correct any areas that may need attention."

A real message of truth from our Divine Creator..!

Message that is so true...
Always stick with what makes perfect sence and can be backed up with physical proof. Don't believe in anything, either know it or don't.
Beliefs are based on second hand information which forms speculation and is subject to change.
Knowledge is gained from first hand information through personal experience which is unquestioned and completly understood, undeniable proof of truth.
Don't play into any kind of religious idealistic brain washing manipulation.
Anything spiritually based that is gained second hand, is confusing and in some way or another makes a profit, isn't the truth and not the real deal.
The spirit of the soul is inlimited and free. Having a known connection with the powerful energy that created all that exists in our known physical rhelm, is personal to the individual and that connection has no boundries ,stipulations and is not set on any kind of conditional guidlines, nor are there rules and regulations that have to be followed inorder to know that powerful endless connection. The energy of the Divine is inside us all and exists in everything that exists.
Makes a lot more sence to me. My connection with God is known and unquestioned, it's a constant and infinite flow of energy completely unconditional and without fear. I trust in that which designed me for a specific purpose in this world. That guides my soul and knows the pure of my heart. For the Divine power of all knowing makes my heart beat and connects me to a beautiful view and understanding of myself.......
The love of life and power of us is knowing what is in the depths of our soul's purpose..
The trinity of true self....
love you all...Donna

Broke college kid seeking donations for a new computer!

Hey tribe.net

I started a blog a few days ago, http://makemeswitch.blogspot.com basically telling people my background story:

Full time college student, while working a full time job is difficult. Supporting your family, 4 people and a dog, on top of that is down right challenging.

The purpose of it was to tell my story to everyone on the net, and hope that a few will leave donations. My tagline is “billions of people use the net everyday, I only need a few thousand to give me a dollar and I’ll have a Mac.”

My current machine is a brick of ABS plastic, IBM ThinkPad rocking at 450MHz. It's pitiful, but adequate enough for word and web surfing. The goal is to get enough money to get a 20 inch iMac, and become a switcher since I’ve been a Windows user since age 6 (19 now).

Within the first day of making the blog I got linked to by Gizmodo: www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/ga...-166703.php

The surge of hits got me over $500 in 2 days. I'm simply asking that the more people who know about me, the more likely I am to receive donations. If you think you know someone who can donate then please send them to my site.

Thanks!
Stefan

We human beings have and are being programmed through the use of fear by munipulation in almost every aspect of our lives and have been for thousands of years... since the invention motion pictures and T.V. a new open venue was created for puplic programming (hum?)using fear by targeting adults and influencing children, which inturn created media and marketing propaganda ....back in the day.. there wasn't a separate established organization that monitored and regulated the media and marketing by the use of proaganda, the religious rulers and governmental heads controlled most of what we were subjected to, there was more behavioral expectations of people in society to stay within the set religious and governmental guidelines....They were building the boxes for us to crawl into...using fear as a way to scare the living shit out of us.....for example; war propaganda used fear like there was no tomorrow, literally...the use of subliminnal (ms sp?) messages ran rampid and went vertually unnoticed for a very long time..god bless the government control......instilling fear into our sub-consiuos minds, without our knowing it.....fear was being implanted double time........god bless the usa........World War one and World War two had us convenced that we were going to parish by the use of atomic bombs...and sold war bond like willy wonka sold choc...candy....this began a new path, focusing on our weakness to get us to do what they wanted.... human minds were now being classically condition and the human robot began to develope....now they are finding new ways to get into our heads......after the damaging media coverage of the viet-nam war...different ideas of individual thought and creativity evolved into a new form of people.....the Government now was being disputed and people began to protest against what they believed was governmentally wrong.......suddenly people began to see the reality of truth, which revieled the governments wrong doings...drugs, sex and rockin' roll ruled the seventies and a different breed of people sat up and took notice of there enviromental surrounding.......I don't agree with disrepecting anyone who fights to protect our safety and the safety of our nation....but are we really all that safe..?..who's really incontrol here..?.. We seem to be crawling right back into those previuosly created boxes and falling pray to the fear again......Are our minds being Fu*% with again?....are they using different ways to get deep into our heads without us realizing it ..?...has religion and government come back together again...?....Yes I think it has?....is our indiviuality of idea's and thoughts being taken away from us right under our noses?....yes....who are they targeting now by using fear programs..our children....next time you get the chance to watch childrens cartoons...pay real close attention to the detail of not only the cartoons but the advertising of childrens toys..video games..ect....ect...fear...fear....fear..is running rampid again...horrific and deadly voilence is now the new cool thing to do....what.....and fear is being instilled deeper than ever and we need to stand up and take notice again......watch for the little details in everything we and our children are being subjected to and expections by society to fall within a set norm of rules and regulation of behavoiral exceptance......what..!...damn it man.....there doing it again......what the..?..we are reverting back to the doids we used to be.......congratulation to religious and govermental control by the use of manipulation through the instilation of fear through the use of propaganda......hip hip hooray.....right.....well I don't care who doesn't like it, but my ass is staying as far away from any boxes as I can.....get out before it's to late and you suddenly realize that you are becomming the robot that they intented for you to be....sad part is they are leaving nothing to chance this time.......watch your kids and what they are watching and playing on the boob-tube..and seeing on computors.....we may think that they are just fine, but becareful not to assume anything.......computors and video games are the new venues to mind control, targeting our kids.........what kind of damage by influence is being done to the sub-consious moldable mental young mind.......huh?

Suckazzz,
It ain't FIGHT CLUB... It's PILLOW FIGHT CLUB!!!

The first rule of PILLOW FIGHT CLUB is, you do not talk about PILLOW FIGHT CLUB.
The second rule of PILLOW FIGHT CLUB is, YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT PILLOW FIGHT CLUB!

Actually, the first and second rules of PILLOW FIGHT CLUB are, bring a soft pillow and have fun.

When and what to do:
Tomorrow Saturday April 1 (no, this is not an april fools joke on you) bring a pillow concealed in a bag, backpack or the like and show up quietly at exactly 6:30pm in front of the big Godzilla in the West End. When the whistle blows or someone yells, pull out your pillow and start fighting anyone and everyone. The whole thing will be over in 10 -15 minutes then people can disperse to their favorite bar and start drinking. The West End location was picked because there are plenty of escape routes should the fuzz show up. Keep this quiet but feel free to bring your friends. See yall there. It's on!
Peaceoutski
-Tony
DESIGNER OR CONTRACTOR
HGTV is looking for you!

HGTV (Home and Garden Television) and Weller/Grossman Productions are looking for unique, cool and creative projects designed and done by real people without the help of contractors or experts.
This fun and inspirational new program chronicles everyday people and their amazing “did it myself” design endeavors and the one-of-a-kind projects that transformed their homes! From unbelievable room reinventions, to cool outdoor creations, innovative kids rooms, wild wall treatments, playful pet projects, and more … we’re looking for ideas that break the design mold and make people say “wow!”

So, if you've transformed your garage into a wine room or bowling alley, built Fido his own futuristic pad, designed the most exotic or themed room on the block, created an incomparable fantasy playroom for the kids -- or done something else spectacular and uniquely special to your home, HGTV is looking for you!
